Procter & Gamble wins corporate sustainability recognition

Procter & Gamble's long-term commitment to corporate sustainability was rewarded before an audience of European business leaders, politicians, VIPs and press at the 2008 European Business Awards - the annual gathering to celebrate Europe's top businesses and business people. During the final award ceremony in Paris, the global personal care product manufacturer Procter & Gamble collected The Award for Corporate Sustainability.

Adrian Tripp, European Business Awards CEO says: "If you wanted a text book example of how to design, implement and embed a sustainability strategy into a huge corporate of more 52,000 people, this would be the one. Procter & Gamble proved it really does deliver on its promise of mproving consumer's lives now and for generations to come."

Its global cause - P&G Live, Learn & Thrive - aims to improve life for children in need around the world. The signature Live, Learn & Thrive programme is Children's Safe Drinking Water. The company provides safe drinking water in developing nations, where over a billion people have no access to clean water. The goal is to supply up to two billion litres of safe water by 2012.

Since 2002, Procter & Gamble has reduced the greenhouse gas intensity of its operations by more than 30 per cent. By 2012, the company will complete a decade-long programme to reduce the environmental footprint of its operations by at least 40 per cent.
