Kemira GrowHow and Thermphos establish Crystalis

Joint venture company for the production of Purified Phosphoric Acid in Finland

05-Jun-2007

Kemira GrowHow Oyj and Thermphos Trading GmbH, 100% owned by Thermphos International B.V., have set up a joint venture company, Crystalis Oy, to produce Purified phosphoric acid (PPA). The company will be located at Kemira GrowHow's site in Siilinjärvi, Finland.

Thermphos will use the PPA as a raw material to produce food and technical grade phosphates. Crystalis Oy's production facility will be integrated into Kemira GrowHow's Siilinjärvi operations and the new company will use Thermphos' and Kemira GrowHow's proprietary production technology. The basic raw material for purified phosphoric acid is phosphoric acid produced at Siilinjärvi. Hence production process is closely integrated into existing operations at Siilinjärvi, resulting in competitive cost structure.

Crystalis Oy has started building its production facilities in Siilinjärvi, Finland and will start operations in the fourth quarter of 2008. The planned production of PPA is 30.000 tons P2O5 per year.
