Schering AG opens Asia-Pacific Headquarters in Singapore

Schering AG of Germany opened its Asia-Pacific headquarters in Singapore to meet the fast growing contraception needs of a new generation of women in Asia. The new company operates under the name of Schering Asia-Pacific Pte Ltd.

Mr Klaus Wulf, Managing Director of Schering Asia-Pacific Pte Ltd said, "With our new headquarters in Singapore we are well positioned to serve women's family spacing needs in Asia. We see a new generation of women in Asia today contributing to vast changes and economic growth in this region. They are increasingly better educated, more career and travel mobile and important contributors to the economy of their country as well as their individual families. Singapore, with its global biomedical sciences hub, is a springboard for the Asia-Pacific market."

Mr Philip Yeo, Chairman, Agency for Science, Technology and Research and Co-Chairman, Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) for Biomedical Sciences said, "I am pleased to award Schering AG with the EDB's International Headquarters Award. Schering's regional headquarters in Singapore will provide it with easy access to the countries and markets in this dynamic region. Schering's decision to set up base in Singapore bears testimony to Singapore's attractiveness as the leading location in Asia for regional headquarters. It will also give a boost to our biomedical sciences industry."

In 2004, total net sales of Schering in the Asia-Pacific Region amounted to USD$ 316 million. Its key markets include Australia, South Korea and China. Schering has nearly 1,500 employees in the region, including 630 sales representatives. Other core business areas include Multiple Sclerosis, Diagnostics as well as Oncology.
