Fluopicolide from Bayer CropScience receives registrations in Japan and the United States
Innovative active ingredient protects against fungal diseases:
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently approved fluopicolide for use in vegetable crops, grapes, turf and ornamentals. In the United States, fluopicolide and combinations containing it will be marketed under a licensing agreement by Valent Corporation in Libertyville, Illinois. Brand names will be Stellar® for use on turf and Presidio® for use on vegetables and grapes. The market launch is scheduled for 2008.
The mode of action of fluopicolide leads to rapid destabilization of fungal cell structures and allows it to provide fast, high-level control of late blight and downy mildew diseases. Products based on this new active ingredient provide particularly long-lasting and very effective protection for plants. The favorable residue and environmental profile enables growers to meet the stringent quality requirements of the food industry. Combinations with fluopicolide are suitable for use in a wide range of crops with short pre-harvest intervals, and the active ingredient can be used flexibly in integrated pest management (IPM) systems.
