Hercules Incorporated and Evonik Goldschmidt GmbH Sign Agreement to Market and Develop Personal Care Products

Established Experts in Polymer Technologies Join Forces

11-Dec-2007

Aqualon, a business unit of Hercules Incorporated, and Evonik Goldschmidt GmbH have signed an agreement to bring new multi-functional polymers to the personal care market. This agreement will allow the companies to leverage their special areas of expertise, specifically, Aqualon's technology expertise in natural polymers and Evonik Goldschmidt's market expertise and application know-how.

"Aqualon sees an exciting future in this segment of the personal care market thanks to our collaboration with Evonik Goldschmidt. Their application expertise will accelerate the creation of innovative new products for the personal care industry," stated Jeff Wolff, General Manager Regulated Industries at Aqualon. "Evonik Goldschmidt is committed to the relationship with Aqualon. The addition of natural polymers strongly enhances our existing portfolio of silicones, organic specialties and active ingredients," commented Willy Klipp, Sr. Vice President and General Manager of Personal Care

The springboard for this collaboration is based on cellulosics (hydroxypropyl methylcellulose) - water soluble polymers for cleansing formulations. In addition to thickening, these polymers exhibit surface activity that results in more stable and creamy foams. Now these celluloses are available in a unique, patented fluidized polymer suspension, making in-use handling easier. Various viscosity grades have been created in both the traditional powder and the new suspension to ensure the right product for specific applications. These products are marketed by Evonik Goldschmidt under the new trade name TEGOCEL® and TEGOCEL® fluid.
