Krahn Chemie supplies rare earth products from Nippon Yttrium

12-Nov-2007

Krahn Chemie, a distributor of specialty chemicals and the Japanese producer Nippon yttrium Co., Ltd. (NYC) started a new sales & marketing cooperation regarding the distribution of rare earth products in Europe.

Rare earths are the general term for a group of chemical elements composed of yttrium, scandium and the lanthanides series (e.g. lanthanum, cerium, praseodymium, neodymium, gadolinium). NYC offers a comprehensive product range in the field of medium and heavy rare earth elements including oxides, various grades of salts as well as metals and alloys. Advanced separation refining technology enables NYC to provide rare earth compounds in high-purity (> 99, 9%).

Rare earth elements are used in a broad range of new industrial applications: optics, magnetism, electronics, energy, ceramics, catalysts, metallurgy and others. Rare earth oxides also play an essential role as sinter aids and stabilizers of ceramic materials. Yttrium oxide is the most important substance to produce fully and partially stabilized zirconia ceramics, e.g. applied as dental implants, but also other oxides like ceria or scandia are used for special ceramic applications.

NYC originally started as a special producer of yttrium oxides, however, in response to increasing demands from high-tech industries, NYC has developed to a producer which is able to meet all needs of rare earth. A reliable manufacturing system ensures quick responses and a stable supply of high-quality rare earth products.
