MHI Awarded Large-scale Polyethylene Plant Contract for ExxonMobil Chemical's New Petrochemical Complex in Singapore

20-Sep-2007

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) has been awarded a contract by ExxonMobil Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd. for two large-scale polyethylene (PE) units with a combined production capacity of 1,300,000 tons per year. Finishing, packaging, and shipping facilities for both PE units and a new polypropylene (PP) line are included in the contract. This contract is part of ExxonMobil Chemical's second petrochemical complex which will be located at and integrated with its existing chemical plant on Jurong Island in Singapore. MHI will be responsible for detailed plant design, supply and procurement of equipment, and on-site construction work. Mitsubishi Corporation is handling the trade particulars.

The PE plant will consist of two 650,000 ton/year production facilities. MHI will also build finishing, packaging and shipping facilities for PE and PP. PE is a chemical product used as raw material for making general-purpose vinyl/plastics, etc. The PE produced at the new plant will help meet sharply increasing demand for the material in Asia, especially in China.

With the new order, besides further solidifying its firm relationship with ExxonMobil Chemical; MHI will now move to conduct aggressive marketing activities for its PE plants on broad fronts.
