Solutia Recognized by U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for Biodegradable Chemistry

25-Sep-2006

As part of National Pollution Prevention Week, Solutia Inc. has been recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's New Chemicals Pollution Prevention (P2) Program for Dequest PB, an innovative biodegradable product used in water and process treatment. The P2 Recognition Project acknowledges companies for developing revolutionary chemistry and technologies that further pollution prevention and other environmental goals.

The Dequest PB series, developed by Solutia and Royal Cosun, is a natural product made from chicory roots and used in cost-effective, environmentally friendly industrial water management applications and detergent products.

"One of today's major applications is the use of Dequest) PB for secondary oil recovery from older and more difficult to exploit wells where it reduces the cost of controlling water pollution with a low toxicity, biodegradable chemical," said Mark Eyers, worldwide commercial development manager, Solutia Europe SA/NV. "Moreover, we are very proud of the fact that Dequest PB-based, environmentally friendly and cost-effective detergents are now being launched on the European market and we hope to bring this exciting new technology to the U.S detergent market soon."
