Bayer CropScience concentrates production of crop protection agents in Brazil on Belford Roxo plant

09-Jun-2006

Bayer CropScience is concentrating the production of its crop protection agents for the Brazilian market on its plant in Belford Roxo. New production plants for liquid insecticide and fungicide formulations came on stream to supplement the existing production facilities at Bayer CropScience's site in the vicinity of Rio de Janeiro. In addition, a quality control and Development Laboratory and new environmental protection systems have been set up. Bayer CropScience has invested some 24 million Brazilian reals (approximately EUR 9 million) in these projects. At the same time, the company discontinues the production of crop protection agents in the Portão site in southern Brazil.

In parallel to the commissioning of the new facilities in Belford Roxo, Bayer CropScience has developed a new logistics concept for the site which will be jointly implemented with the Brazilian logistics company EBAMAG Logística. EBAMAG is investing some additional 23 million Brazilian reals to build a new warehousing and distribution center on a 20,000 m2 site. The center will serve as the central logistics hub for Bayer CropScience's business in Brazil. Once the center is commissioned, EBAMAG will operate all logistics work in the Belford Roxo plant on behalf of Bayer CropScience.
