Unique Innovations in Coil Technology improve Actively Shielded NMR systems
Working jointly with sister company Oxford Superconducting Technology, Oxford Instruments Superconductivity has developed the innovative coil structure technology that has enabled the production of the new Actively Shielded 800 MHz magnet. This magnet has the same ultimate performance as all Oxford Instruments magnets but comprises an 18.81 Tesla superconducting magnet in a low-loss cryostat with a 54mm room temperature bore. This provides for unparalleled stability and low cryogen evaporation rates.
The new coil technology has enabled the Actively Shielded 800 MHz magnet to have a much lower system weight, ceiling height requirement and cryostat diameter which means that siting costs are significantly reduced. The Actively Shielded(TM) 800 MHz NMR magnet is also simpler in operation than competitors' systems and runs at a temperature of 4.2K , rather than the standard of 2.2K and eliminates the need for fridges or pumping systems which reduces system complexity.
It is anticipated that the new Actively Shielded systems from Oxford Instruments will improve customers access to obtaining high quality 800 MHz data by reducing siting costs without any compromise in NMR performance.
