Schott increases professional development activities
This is SCHOTT's way of emphasizing their sense of responsibility for the professional training and development market in the Tirschenreuth county, says Geiger. Creating a sufficient number of apprenticeship and traineeship posts was the central issue of the first communal round-table family debate held in Mitterteich (as commented on earlier in an article published in the region's major newspaper entitled 'Der Neue Tag'). As the county's largest employer, SCHOTT felt it was their duty to respond to this issue by setting a positive example, Geiger stated to the responsible vocational training specialists assembled.
Even though SCHOTT will not, in view of the number of apprentices/trainees trained beyond actual demand, be in a position to guarantee full employment to everyone upon completion of their apprenticeship or traineeship, human sources management are promising to remain true to the motto "Schott - Your Opportunity" and keep on as many of the young people as possible upon receipt of their qualification.
The special glass manufacturer's professional development activities for 2003 again focus on the technical/industrial and commercial sectors. For the training year 2004, SCHOTT will for the first time offer traineeship posts for the qualification of "Industrial Commercial Clerk with Supplementary Qualification in European Business Management & Foreign Languages". This new traineeship option combines the training of an Industrial Commercial Clerk with that of a Qualified Foreign Language Correspondent. Personnel development at SCHOTT is thus reacting to the continuing increase in internationalisation and the high export rate prevalent at the Mitterteich base. The qualification prerequisites required for this commercial traineeship, according to the Head of Training and Human Resources, Gerhard Geiger, are an 'Abitur' degree (equivalent to an Advanced School Certificate in the UK or an Associate's Degree in the US), combined with an above-average aptitude for and command of foreign languages. Applications for a 2004 apprenticeship or traineeship at SCHOTT should be submitted to the Personnel Development Team not later than November 2003.
