Merck KGaA Appoints Corporate Development, M&A Heads
Jon Stonehouse (42) has been appointed Head of Corporate Development, Merck KGaA. His responsibilities include Global Licensing and Business Development of Ethical Pharmaceuticals as well as Corporate Mergers & Acquisitions. In his new position, Stonehouse reports directly to the CEO of Merck KGaA, Prof. Bernhard Scheuble.
Jon Stonehouse joined Merck KGaA in 1999. Prior to his new appointment, he was a Vice President, Business Development & Integration and a member of the Executive Committee of Pharma Ethicals. A microbiologist by education, Mr. Stonehouse held several positions with international Pharmaceutical companies.
Mr. Stonehouse started his career at Merck & Co as a Sales Representative. He moved on to Astra Merck, Inc., where he finally served as National Sales Manager. He took on the position of National Sales Director for Managed Care at Astra Pharmaceuticals, LP. Prior to joining Merck KGaA, he was a Product Director for Prilosec (omeprazole) at AstraZeneca.
Axel-Sven Malkomes (36) has been appointed Head of Corporate Mergers & Acquisitions. In his new position, Malkomes reports to Jon Stonehouse, Merck KGaA's Head of Corporate Development.
Prior to joining Merck Mr. Malkomes was a Director of Mergers & Acquisitions with Lehman Brothers in London and Frankfurt. He was specialised on execution of private and public deals in General Industrial, Pharma, Specialty Chemicals and Healthcare.
Mr. Malkomes' career includes a 10 year Investment banking background covering Mergers & Acquisitions, Private Equity, Leveraged Finance, Equity- and Debt-linked products and Equity Capital Markets. Mr. Malkomes holds a master degree in Business Administration of Bamberg University. He spent several semesters at University in London, Birmingham and Lille.
