OHAUS
Coffee grounds are a very valuable raw material, which is currently mostly diverted to landfills. Only 30% of the potential from coffee beans is used in cafeterias or homes during beverage preparation, the other 70% is hidden away with great potential in coffee wastes.
A proud spin-off of the Warsaw University of Technology, EcoBean is committed to is to close the loop on coffee and introducing SCG-derived chemicals with the lowest carbon footprint possible. EcoBean’s solution combines cutting-edge biotechnological innovation, a commitment to positive environmental impact, and a business-driven approach.
Innovative Solutions and the Circular Economy
EcoBean operates at the exciting intersection of technology and environmental stewardship. Their unique business model involves collecting spent coffee grounds (SCGs) and processing them into five fractions of chemicals that can be used in various industrial segments, including cosmetics, pharma, food, feed or packaging.
The developed process addresses two pressing challenges: the growing problem of waste generation and the increasing demand for sustainable raw materials. This solution is not only effective and scalable, but also practical for clients to implement.
Partner in Sample Preparation and Quality Control
OHAUS weighing and laboratory equipment products play a significant role in the EcoBean laboratory, supporting daily work with the raw materials (coffee grounds) and the products obtained from their processing.
EcoBean R&D team find OHAUS equipment very helpful in their daily operations in the lab. As stated by EcoBean, “The OHAUS equipment perfectly met our basic needs. The use proved to be easy, intuitive and, most importantly, improved the repeatability of analysis results.”
