ELASTOSIL ® SG 20 - A New Curtainwall Sealant from WACKER

13-May-2002

WACKER has developed a new sealant with excellent adhesion properties, especially for structural glazing applications: ELASTOSILÒ SG 20. This novel product is based on the innovative and patented Alkoxy Technology, and the only by-product it releases on curing is odorless alcohol. The sealant exhibits outstanding mechanical properties and bonds superbly well to an extremely wide range of material substrates. Professionals can experience the adhesive sealant when it is unveiled at VETECO in Madrid, from May 8 to 11.

ELASTOSIL® SG 20 is a one-part system for bonded glazing. The silicone rubber, which cures at room temperature, is neutral curing and highly resistant to UV and weathering.

In addition to the novel, physiologically harmless curing technology, customers can also rely on proven WACKER quality:

Tested to European EOTA Guidelines (EOTA ETAG No. 002) Tested to U.S. ASTM standards Extremely strict quality control during production of ELASTOSIL® SG 20 (ISO 9001 and ISO 14001) Quality controls during processing: all customers have access to the testing service at a WACKER Glass Competence Center Aesthetically attractive all-glass facades have become international symbols of modern design and transparency the world over. Last year, about 10 square miles of curtainwalling were constructed using this bonding technology. In some markets, structural glazing is showing yearly growth of 25 %.

WACKER’s technological leadership in certain market areas is the result of its strong research investment. Its R&D programs are integral parts of its market-driven, customer-oriented business processes. With an R&D budget that is consistently about 5 to 6 percent of sales, WACKER is regularly among the world’s top 15 chemical companies.
