Tecan introduces new products at the 2001 LabAutomation meeting in Palm Springs, USA
New applications in DNA extraction and ADME toxicity strengthen position in key market areas
The new applications have been made possible by the introduction of automated centrifugation with the new Genesis Freedom™. The introduction of automation for applications needing centrifugation means that Tecan offers fully scalable automation of all the basic DNA extraction technologies. With the launch of DNA extraction kits (MagPrep™ kits) exclusively developed and manufactured by Merck for Tecan, the company is now able to offer a complete solution for DNA extraction. Applications using fully automated centrifugation with the Genesis Freedom™ will be available later this year.
“We are very pleased to introduce new products that offer our customers new applications," said Emile Sutcliffe, CEO of the TECAN Group. “By providing novel applications, we offer much needed solutions for the automation of laboratory processes. The introduction of the new products is in line with Tecan’s commitment to meet the increasing demand for effective solutions for high throughput processes and to add value to its existing product range.”
With the introduction of new applications based on the Genesis Freedom™, Tecan is also offering the Safire™ microplate reader. The Safire™ microplate reader is a high-end monochromator reader that has been engineered for drug discovery applications such as assay development, compound characterization and high throughput screening. Safire™ is the world’s first monochromator-based microplate reader that combines both fluorescence and absorption measurements.
The LabAutomation conference is one of the leading meetings of its kind in the world and brings together senior managers, scientists, engineers and technology suppliers to discuss and see first hand the latest developments in laboratory automation. At the meeting Emile Sutcliffe remarked: “The LabAutomation conference is the ideal setting for Tecan to introduce its new products. For 2001, we expect continued sales growth for all our automated platforms and products in line with the performance we delivered in 2000. The addition of new applications will allows us further access to the key market of high throughput processes.”
