BASF: new leader among fluorescent brighteners for polyester textiles
As of the start of the year 2001, Ultraphor® SFR Plus Liquid has superseded Ultraphor SFR Liquid. The fluorescent brightener from BASF is based on a distyrylbenzene compound and is very useful as an OBA for textiles composed of polyester and polyester blends. SFR Plus Liquid provides a whiteness with the same- tint as SFR Liquid.
SFR Plus is similarly easy to combine with all other OBAs of the Ultraphor range to match any white demanded by the market. But it is not just this property which will be highly welcome in the textile finishing industry. SFR Plus Liquid also has improved sublimation fastness. This provides textile finishers with even higher process reliability. In addition, Ultraphor SFR Plus Liquid gives even more uniform exhaustion on to the textile. So less energy is needed, since it can be applied even at low temperatures of around 100 degrees Celsius and yet provide a top white effect.
The flexibility of the product is such that it can be applied at as low as 150 °C for thermosoling. There is thus no compatibility problem with resin finish and pretreatment agents.
Furthermore, BASF warrants a two year storage life for Ultraphor SFR Plus Liquid. The product is frost insensitive.
The environmental aspect
Ultraphor SFR Plus Liquid is an extremely benign OBA. Both the exhaust process and thermosoling leave almost 100 percent of the OBA in the fiber interior. The small amount that passes into the effluent can be eliminated by adsorption on sewage sludge.
