Focus on electromagnetic fields in chlor-alkali production

21-Jan-2009 - Belgium

Euro Chlor, representing the European Chlor-Alkali industry, has just finalised a new issue in its series of scientific publications called FOCS: Focus on chlorine Science. The new FOCS discusses the issue of electromagnetic fields, including chlor-alkali production by electrolysis, and their possible health effects.

More specifically, FOCS 05 gives an overview of today’s knowledge about the potential health effects of various electromagnetic fields under chlor-alkali conditions. You’ll also learn more about the European regulation on the matter (exposure limits, assessment and calculation of exposure, worker information etc.) and about Euro Chlor initiatives to help industry and the authorities in the application of the European Directive. This fifth FOCS is the first one to benefit from a complete restyling.

From 1999 on, Euro Chlor has been organising focused literature reviews of electromagnetic fields in the chlor-alkali industry. Euro Chlor members have also performed measurements in several electrolysis units and technical information and recommendations have been published in the Euro Chlor “Health” technical publications. Adverse effects of electromagnetic fields on human health have not been observed in chlor-alkali industry.

Focus on Chlorine Science (FOCS) is a series of leaflets aiming to clarify and consolidate scientific research in the field of chlorine industry. With the FOCS series, we want to facilitate the knowledge gathering of scientists, regulators and key decision makers.
