Polyone Brings Benefits of e-Procurement to its Customer Base Through Omnexus e-Marketplace
ATLANTA (Jan. 15, 2002) - PolyOne Corporation, the world's largest polymer services company, marked the debut of its online presence on the Omnexus global plastics eMarketplace by conducting its first transaction with long-standing customer, Ironwood Plastics, Inc., the companies announced today. The premiere of the PolyOne line brings to more than 20 the number of plastics manufacturers and distributors choosing Omnexus to facilitate their e-commerce offerings.
Omnexus processed the transaction between PolyOne and Ironwood in an entirely automated exchange using the eMarketplace's recently enhanced ordering system. Using customer input to refine its eProcurement system, Omnexus launched the new system, capable of less than 30-second order processing, in December 2001.
Specializing in high-quality custom injection molded products and design, Ironwood Plastics has enjoyed a long relationship as a customer of PolyOne. As with many companies repositioning themselves for growth in a changing business world, Ironwood has placed a strong focus on e-commerce initiatives in its business plans, and saw immediate opportunities with PolyOne's debut on Omnexus.
"The speed and global reach of Omnexus is enabling Ironwood to realize the benefits of online procurement much faster and easier than we had anticipated in our business forecasts," said Kathy Jo Koval, Procurement, Ironwood Plastics. "We're excited about the immediate and future opportunities Omnexus offers us, while at the same time enabling us to maintain our existing relationships with key suppliers like PolyOne."
Companies like Ironwood Plastics benefit from significant time and cost savings as they communicate directly through Omnexus with PolyOne and other suppliers. This helps create a single, automated supply chain that minimizes wasteful ordering errors, and that conveniently functions outside of normal business hours.
"Omnexus is obviously pleased with the positive response from companies like Ironwood, who see the benefits of eProcurement for their businesses," said David Jukes, senior vice president for Omnexus. "Our technology has continued to evolve, based on user feedback. Today, the amount of savings that can be realized through the use of Omnexus has become so significant that it now represents a competitive advantage to both processors and their suppliers."
