Ashland names Tufts as leader for new technology center in China

Tim Tufts, Ph.D., has been selected as the new leader of the recently announced technology center that Ashland Inc. is constructing in Shanghai, China. As technology manager for Ashland China, Tufts will serve as a member of the Ashland China Leadership Team and report to Ashland China President Dale MacDonald.

In his new role, Tufts will develop and manage the Ashland China Technology Center. The facility will house staff and equipment to provide product and application development, as well as analytical support for the region. As leader of the Ashland China Technology Center, Tufts will also have reporting responsibilities to Luca Fontana, Ph.D., vice president and chief technology officer for Ashland Inc.

Tufts began his scientific career at Ashland 27 years ago as a scientist and most recently led Ashland's composite polymer efforts in transportation and marine application technology. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from Bob Jones University, Greenville, SC, and a doctorate in polymer chemistry from the University of Tennessee. Tufts is listed as the inventor on 29 U.S. patents.

Ashland China employs more than 400 people and has offices in Shanghai and Beijing, and manufacturing facilities in Beijing, Changzhou, Kunshan and Nanjing.
