Eastman Acquires Ariel Research Corporation
Ariel Research, headquartered in Bethesda, Md., is a leading provider of worldwide regulatory information and software products that enable corporations to manage product safety and stewardship functions, including requirements for workplace, environmental and dangerous goods compliance. Its customers include major global corporations for chemical, pharmaceutical, consumer products, aerospace, electronics and telecommunications markets.
J. Brian Ferguson, Eastman chairman and CEO, said, "This venture is among the first examples of Eastman's strategy to create growth through new businesses and services in addition to our traditional growth efforts."
Ferguson said Ariel's capabilities added to Eastman's will result in better product stewardship information solutions for customers. "Ariel's leadership in compliance products and services complements Eastman's recognized reputation for managing product stewardship information. When you combine that expertise with Eastman's leading edge efforts in e-business and digital technologies, it's clear we can build and provide solutions that enable accuracy, efficiency and consistency for our customers."
Ken Clansky and Pat Waldo, co-founders of Ariel, also commented on the acquisition. "This is a great opportunity that will enable Ariel to enhance and expand its product and services offerings," Clansky said. Waldo added, "We believe that Ariel will benefit greatly from Eastman's environmental, health and safety knowledge and technology leadership, and we look forward to extending our reach to include many Eastman customers around the world."
Ariel will operate as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Eastman. Ariel, which has about 35 employees, will continue to be headquartered in Bethesda, MD.
