SGS and TÜV NORD contracted for important gas pipeline project
SGS SA
Two pipelines, each of 1210 kilometres length, shall be laid in the Baltic Sea and will connect Wyborg at the Russian coast with Greifswald in Germany and thus tie in Europe directly with the worlds largest natural gas reserves. 2.2 Million tons of steel and 2.4 Million tons of concrete will be used during the construction. First natural gas is scheduled to flow through the new pipeline in 2010. 25% of the European Union's additional gas demand shall be covered by both pipeline strings as from 2015 on.
The special technology and environmental protection issues require a high dedication to the quality assurance in the project. SGS and TÜV Nord accept the challenge and will assure the quality and safety in each pipeline construction phase. The design phase has already started.
