Transwide provides Solvin with a pioneering supply chain execution platform

12-Nov-2001

Brussels. Transwide, Europe's leading technology solutions for transportation execution and Solvin, a joint venture between Solvay and BASF and the largest player in the European PVC market, are implementing a dedicated transportation execution technology platform.

Before using Transwide, Solvin sent e-mails or even faxes for each transport order to its dedicated logistics providers via its ERP system. Exception management and follow-up issues were handled manually either by phone or by fax. Transwide's solutions connect Solvin's dedicated logistics providers to a private collaboration platform, which is integrated with Solvin's ERP system.

Currently, the platform connects one factory and its three main logistics providers, Vos Bulk Logistics BV, De Dijcker NV and S.T.T. SA. The platform is currently handling the equivalent of 10,000 full truckloads of bulk shipments per year. Solvin and Transwide are in the process of connecting an additional five factories in Europe with another 27 logistic providers, bringing the total number of full truckloads up to 50,000 per year.

Through the platform, Solvin now manages the entire call-off process with its logistics providers via the link with its ERP and dedicated, secure web pages. Day-to-day transport needs are processed via one common network, thus simplifying and standardising procedures. All data surrounding the call-off process are recorded, creating the opportunity to analyse operational performance in details.

In addition Solvin and Transwide are currently running a pilot where transportation documents (including CMRs) are issued electronically and made available to all parties. Solvin's end-customers receive advance notices on exactly what has been shipped and when it is due to arrive. This new Transwide solution is compliant with the latest European legislation on transport documentation.

"Early adopters of Supply Chain Execution capabilities will benefit from better process efficiencies and will immediately be able to offer better services to their end customers. Solvin, as European leader in the PVC industry is such an early adopter and wants to remain ahead of the market in terms of supply chain execution", says Arnaud van Wijck, Chief Executive Officer of Transwide. "Transwide is one of the very few European players who can offer tangible solutions to create efficiencies in the European transportation market", says Erwin Tauber, Supply Chain Manager of Solvin. "The Transwide platform has been designed to enable us to provide better fulfillment services to our end customers while increasing process efficiencies both for us as for our logistics partners".

About Solvin Solvin was set up in 1999, when Solvay and BASF joined their competences in the vinyls sector. The synergies achieved in know-how and organization, the complementarity of product ranges as well as upstream integration have built up Solvin as a leader on the PVC and PVDC markets. The joint venture has operations in France, Germany, Italy and the Benelux countries and a total capacity of 1.2 million tonnes of PVC in 2001. Solvin generated consolidated sales of 1.14 billion euros in 2000, with 1,950 employees. Solvay owns 75% of Solvin and BASF, the remaining 25%.
