Dow: A New Advanced Technology Resin for Extruded and Thermoformed Refrigerator Liners
Commercially available in Europe, this new resin expands Dow's next-generation line of advanced technology polystyrene resins that deliver improved combinations of physical properties and processability.
STYRON A-TECH 1175 resin offers ease of processing while providing the excellent toughness and environmental stress crack resistance (ESCR) to foodstuff and blowing agents required for refrigerator liners. The improved toughness of the resin also creates a more durable part for reduced handling breakage and scrap, increasing the efficiency of the manufacturing operation.
Dow offers a wide range of resins for appliance applications, including STYRON* and STYRON A-TECH polystyrene resins, which are mainly used in doors and inner liners of refrigerators and freezers, as well as accessories such as egg trays, vegetable crisper drawers and door pieces.
STYRON A-TECH 1175 polystyrene is part of the STYRON A-TECH 1170 series, which is at the core of Dow's appliance offering. This global resin series is commercially available as STYRON A-TECH 1170 in North America and Latin America, as STYRON A-TECH 1173 in Asia Pacific and now as STYRON A-TECH 1175 in Europe.
"Dow's broad product range gives us great flexibility to find the right resin to meet customer needs," says Susanne Kremeier, global marketing manager for appliances at Dow. "We work closely with customers to assess the economics and performance requirements of their application to deliver an optimum polymer solution for them."
