Eka Chemicals Island at Veracel inaugurated

Eka chemicals, a business unit of Akzo Nobel, inaugurated two new plants built in Brazil to supply chemicals to the fast growing pulp and paper industry in the region. The investments amounts to a total 70 million EUR.

Eka Bahia is the Chemicals Island at the new Veracel pulp mill inaugurated on September 28. The chemical island is a unique project where Eka Chemicals take care of the pulp mill´s total chemicals supply. The plant includes production units for sodium chlorate 58,000 tpy, chlorine dioxide 50 tpd, oxygen 1,000 tpy and a tank park for handling all chemicals from other sources.

A new silica sol plant was inaugurated at Santa Cruz, in Rio de Janeiro. It is built to supply paper mills in the region with agents for retention and dewatering. Products and Eka application know how are especially suitable to the export-oriented paper mills where quality is a key issue. Part of the silica production will be delivered to an adjacent manufacturer of catalysers for the petroleum industry.
