Rhodia strengthens its North and Latin American precipitated
Rhodia announces completion of the acquisition of Venezuela-based precipitated silica producer, Venesil, located 400 km to the west of Caracas in Barquisimento. As part of Rhodia’s development of its precipitated silica business, Venesil’s modern and competitive production unit for precipitated silica and sodium silicate (the raw material for silica), brings to Rhodia an additional annual precipitated silica production capacity of over 20,000 tons and 50,000 tons of sodium silicate, to serve the Americas markets. For Olivier Caix, Rhodia Silica President "As the world leader in precipitated silica, this investment illustrates our determination to strengthen our positions in the Americas markets by having 3 production sites at the highest technological level in North and Latin America with Chicago Heights, Illinois in the U.S., Paulinia, Brazil and Venesil in Latin America. This production base in addition to the sites of Collonges – France, Qingdao – China and Incheon – Korea will allow us to offer an increased level of service to our global customers throughout the world." Rhodia is the worldwide leader in precipitated silica and the inventor of both the highly dispersible silica and the Micro-Pearl. Precipitated silica is used in applications for toothpaste, paper, food ingredients, animal feed, technical rubber parts, sports shoes, and tires.
