Eka Chemicals take over Aspa Bruk chlorine dioxide production
Eka Chemicals, an Akzo Nobel company, and Smurfit Munksjö Aspa Bruk have agreed that Eka Chemicals is to take over chlorine dioxide production at Aspa Bruk, Sweden.
A new process technology is to be installed in the mill based on Eka´s HPA technology. In the rebuilt plant, chlorine dioxide is now being generated using hydrogen peroxide, instead of the sulphur dioxide now used, which means the risks attached to handling sulphur dioxide will be eliminated and working conditions improved. The new plant is being installed by Eka Chemicals and is scheduled for start-up in March-April 2005.
The new HPA plant is controlled on site but will be constantly monitored from the Eka operations centre in Stockvik, Sundsvall.
