Dow Corning joint venture to purchase silicone operation from Nippon Unicar to strengthen Competitive position in Japan

Dow Corning Corporation announced that its joint venture in Japan, Dow Corning Toray Silicone Co., Ltd. (DCTS) has reached an agreement with Nippon Unicar Co., Ltd. (NUC) to purchase its silicone division. The sale is expected to be finalized September 30.

Both companies expect that consolidation of the two operations will better meet the silicon-related technology and specialty materials needs of customers in Japan.

As a result of this sale, the capabilities of both companies: NUC's advanced technology and know-how in specialty chemicals and DCTS's wide capabilities in silicone production will be aligned to offer superior technology and solutions. DCTS will offer the same or equivalent silicone products now sold by NUC after the completion of the sale.

Dow Corning Toray Silicone Company, Limited is a joint venture of Dow Corning Corporation and Toray Industries, Inc.

Nippon Unicar Company, Ltd. is jointly owned by Union Carbide Corporation and Kawasaki Polyolefin Holdings YK.
