Linde continues to expand gas business in Southeast Asia

25-Aug-2004

The Linde Group has now acquired a liquefaction plant for the production of carbon dioxide (CO2) at Thailand's east coast from the Norwegian gas and fertilizer group, Yara International ASA, Oslo. The 60 employees at the plant produce liquid Carbon Dioxide, which can be used to deep freeze foods such as fish and poultry. Both parties to the contract have agreed to keep the purchase price of the plant, based in the Thai gas center of Rayong, confidential.

"With this acquisition, Linde Gas is significantly expanding its position in Thailand. The purchase is a further building block in our Southeast Asia strategy", declared Dr. Aldo Belloni, Executive Board Member at Linde AG and responsible for the Gas and Engineering Business Segment.

Until now, Linde Gas in Thailand has been active in the areas of industrial gases and Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas) and boasts one of the largest plants for the production of Nitrous Oxide, which is predominantly used in anesthesia. Linde had already strengthened its position in Southeast Asia in the first half of this year with the purchase of a synthesis gas plant and an air separation plant in Singapore as well as the takeover of the largest supplier of liquid Carbon Dioxide in Malaysia.
