BASF Coatings becomes system supplier for FAW-VW in Changchun
Successful in the China growth market
Changchun/Muenster. BASF Coatings is a new system supplier in Changchun, China: Effective September 2004, BASF Coatings will be the leading supplier for all four paint coats-e-coat, primer, basecoat, and clearcoat-for the new Car Plant II of FAW-VW, the joint venture between the FAW Group and the Volkswagen Group, at Changchun. Initially, the new plant will produce the VW Caddy for the Asian market. Additional models will follow. Eventually, the plant's annual capacity will be 300,000 vehicles.
Many factors made BASF Coatings the top choice as the new system partner: In addition to high product quality and good technical service, BASF's high share of local production was key: "By working together with BASF Coatings, we intend to set new standards regarding quality and costs," says FAW-VW President Huanming Qin in summarizing his expectations for the collaboration with the new system partner. "Our customers know that we contribute to their success with intelligent solutions," explains Walter Liu, Sales Director of BASF Shanghai Coatings in emphasizing BASF Coatings' competence and goals.
At Changchun, a BASF team of 18 people is preparing the launch of the new system partnership. Under the leadership of Technical Manager Thomas Brust, BASF Coatings will fill the e-coat tank in September.
A delegation from Changchun will soon visit the successful system supply of BASF Coatings at the VW plant in Poznan, Poland, where the VW Caddy is produced for the European market.
