NuGenesis® Technologies Awarded Patent For Its NuGenesis® Scientific Data Management System (SDMS)
U.S. Patent No. 6,260,044, issued to Nagral et al, entitled "Information Storage and Retrieval System for storing and retrieving the visual form of information from an application in a database" covers NuGenesis SDMS' ability to store and access visual information generated from a Laboratory Control and Analysis program in connection with a print operation.
"It has been our vision to create an enterprise-wide platform that makes data accessible throughout the organization, facilitating the rapid development and release of new products, " stated Michael E. McGuinness, NuGenesis Technologies' President and CEO. "The awarding of the patent not only protects our intellectual property, but validates our suite of software as unique and integral to scientific professionals as the means for decision-making and collaboration on a global scale."
"We have always maintained that our approach to capturing and managing information in the laboratory is unique and highly differentiated. As a company we continue to be at the forefront of technological innovation, providing our customers with solutions that are of significant value to their business" stated Ajit Nagral, founder of NuGenesis Technologies and author of the patent. "This patent maintains our leadership position in the fast-growing data management market for science-based companies."
Electronic information generated in laboratories is currently compartmentalized and highly fragmented. Scores of proprietary instruments generate volumes of electronic data, which typically can only be read by the machine that created it. Data and graphic images needed for reports, presentations or regulatory submissions are paper-based, and often inaccessible - requiring an inordinate amount of a scientist's time searching, cutting, and pasting.
NuGenesis SDMS is designed for the collection, storage, and retrieval of electronic information in a laboratory environment. NuGenesis SDMS automatically captures and catalogs both human-readable and machine-readable data from a variety of laboratory and business applications, and stores that data in a central database. Once in the database, scientists can easily access, analyze, and interpret the data in support of daily activities across the enterprise.
NuGenesis SDMS also enhances compliance with FDA's 21 CFR Part 11, known as the "Electronic Records; Electronic Signatures" rule, and the proposed CROMERRR from EPA, both of which stipulate that data created electronically must be maintained in that format. Scientists can no longer print a report and expect such a record to be acceptable to these regulatory agencies. Additionally, companies must be able to produce the data at a moment's notice.
