Celanese signs major supply agreements for Nanjing site
Agreements represent key milestones for new acetic acid plant
The company signed a 15-year agreement with The BOC Group for the supply of carbon monoxide. BOC is the largest industrial gases company in China and throughout Asia. It will construct plants, pipelines and other infrastructure for the supply of oxygen, carbon monoxide, hydrogen and steam to Celanese and other companies in Nanjing Chemical Industry Park. Completion of the BOC project is scheduled for mid-2006.
Also, Celanese announced that it has agreed to purchase the acetic acid reactor for the plant from AstroCosmos of Camarillo, California. The design reflects the combined technical expertise of Celanese and AstroCosmos, one of the world's largest producers of corrosive-resistant, reactive metals equipment for the chemical processing industries.
"With necessary government approvals and these and other key vendor relationships in place, our facility plans in Nanjing are moving forward," said Celanese AG vice chairman and Chief Operating Officer Dave Weidman. "We look forward to becoming the premier supplier of acetic acid and derivatives in China and an active member of the Nanjing business community. Celanese appreciates the vision and support of local government authorities in Nanjing and the Nanjing Chemical Industry Park."
As previously announced, Celanese plans to begin operations at its Nanjing plant in 2006.
