GCG MacVector to Support Mac OS X
Version 10.2 extends the Package's profile analysis tools by supplying Dr. Sean Eddy's HMMER family of programs as well as the Pfam database. The HMMER programs allow researchers to use profile HMMs representations of a sequence family's consensus sequence, to find known domains in their sequences. Researchers can use a profile hidden Markov models (HMM) to search sequence databases for sequences related to a sequence family, or they can search a profile HMM database such as Pfam with a query sequence to find known domains in their sequence. The Pfam database, from the Pfam Consortium, consists of a collection of over 2500 profile HMMs that represent common protein domains.
Researchers performing polymerase chain reaction (PCR) or DNA template sequencing can benefit from new tools that evaluate individual primers to determine their compatibility for use as PCR primer pairs and that compute the melting temperature of oligonucleotides.
All of these new capabilities are available via SeqLab, the graphical Windows interface that makes it easy to use the Wisconsin Package. SeqLab provides project management capabilities, a powerful editor for sequence manipulation, plus access to all of the Package programs, including those for database searching, alignment, evolutionary analysis, and primer, motif, gene, and secondary structure prediction.
