Chemetall and Carl Bechem enter cooperation agreement

06-Feb-2004

specialty chemicals producer Chemetall GmbH, Frankfurt, and lubricant specialist Carl Bechem GmbH, Hagen, are seeking a closer cooperation in the area of cold extrusion technology. In January the two companies entered a cooperation agreement in the field of so-called One-pot Processes. Accordingly Chemetall will commercialise Bechem's "Beruforge® 170 process" within its cold forming market. Bechem produces all the lubricants necessary for this process and will continue to supply customers in the field of hot and semi-hot forming. The Bechem process complements Chemetall´s extensive cold forming product range and will be sold under the name of Gardolube® L 6300.

Gardolube L 6300 (Beruforge 170) offers considerable cost saving potentials in numerous cold extrusion applications, e.g. with automotive component manufacturers. For special applications on sanded surfaces, the new process replaces conventional six-stage pre-treatments (activating - phosphating - rinsing - neutralising - soaping - drying) with a three step sequence, i.e. pre-rinsing, coating and drying. Furthermore, cycle time reductions up to 50 percent can be achieved.

"We have already sampled several customers", says Dr. Ulrich Hönig, head of Chemetall's cold forming unit, "and the results are encouraging. He explains: "The Gardolube L 6300 process can be adapted individually to operation-specific conditions and in many cases provides an innovative higher-performing alternative to conventional phosphating procedures."
