New plant opened in USA
SCHOTT Glas, Mainz, opened a factory for pharmaceutical packaging in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, USA. SCHOTT Pharmaceutical Packaging employs some 150 staff and has invested US$ 14 million in the new plant, which covers 16,000 square meters (almost 4 acres). The SCHOTT Pharmaceutical Packaging range includes ampoules, vials and cartridges, with the manufacture of plastic and glass syringes already in the pipeline. "If you want to be the market leader with your products in the USA, you have to manufacture them there, too", explained Dr. Leopold von Heimendahl, Chairman of the Management Board at SCHOTT Glas, during the opening ceremony. The inauguration of the plant also coincides with the 40th anniversary of the SCHOTT group being present in the USA. In total, the SCHOTT Group employs 2,700 staff in North America divided among 16 production sites, three distribution companies and the SCHOTT Corporation holding.
