BASF presents chemical specialties at "ChemSpec Europe 2003"

08-May-2003

BASF will present chemical specialties including intermediates, surfactants, biocides and polyethyleneimines at this year's "ChemSpec Europe 2003". The special exhibition for chemical products and product development takes place at the exhibition center in Manchester, United Kingdom, on June 4th and 5th. The BASF stand is number H 6.

Intermediates from BASF are used in a variety of areas including the production of pharmaceuticals, crop protection agents, coating resins, plastics, fibers, adhesives and dyes. Additionally, they are utilized as process chemicals in the manufacture and finishing of pigments, textiles, leather and paper. Through "New business development", BASF is constantly looking for opportunities to expand the product portfolio according to market demands and specific customer requirements.

A visit to the BASF booth is a good opportunity to become familiar with BASF technologies and their use for manufacturing tailor-made intermediates.

The focus of the extensive range of intermediates presented by BASF this year is again its growing portfolio of optically active amines, alcohols and acids, which are marketed under the ChiPros(TM) brand. In addition to new products, such as 2- and 4-hydroxyacetophenone and methanesulfonic acid, inorganic specialties like boron halides, alcoholates, hydroxylamine and its derivatives are being presented in more detail at ChemSpec.

For the life science industry - ChiPros(TM) Optically active intermediates are mainly used as building blocks or auxiliaries in the manufacture of pharmaceutical and agrochemical compounds. BASF uses the brand ChiPros to market and differentiate its unique chiral intermediates portfolio.

With its ChiPros, the company provides to its customers a broad portfolio of optically active intermediates in high chemical and optical purities. In many cases, ChiPros intermediates are tailor-made for new developmental applications of BASF's customers and then added to BASF's portfolio as demand grows. Working in close cooperation with each of its customers, BASF is able to support their processes by timely supplying both lab quantities as well as large-scale production volumes - from the first gram up to multi tons. The ChiPros manufacturing facilities are state-of-the-art and were started in the last two years.

For fine chemistry - inorganic specialties Driven by customer needs New Business Development continuously works on the expansion of BASF's inorganics portfolio. Some recent examples in this area are the construction of a commercial production plant for methanesulfonic acid and the addition of sodium tert.-butylate to BASF's portfolio of alcoholates.

Other products from the broad portfolio of inorganic chemicals are used as catalysts, process chemicals or building blocks in a wide variety of innovative applications. Examples of these inorganic specialties are sodium tert.-butylate, potassium tert.-butylate and other higher alcoholates, boron trifluoride and Hydroxylamine Free Base as well as hydroxylamine derivatives - all of which are used for example in the pharmaceutical, agrochemical or cosmetics industries.

For the formulating industries - surfactants and polyalkylene glycols At ChemSpec Europe 2003, sales and development staff will present the entire surfactants and polyalkylene glycols range from BASF. With their particular performance characteristics, these products conform to the many requirements of the formulating industries with regard to emulsifying, demulsifying, dispersing, wetting, dissolving, lubricating, greasing, degreasing, foaming, defoaming, cleaning or thickening.

The range extends from alcohol ethoxylates, marketed under the brand name Lutensol®, to low-foam surfactants (Plurafac®, Pluronic®) to specific emulsifiers (Emulan®, Emulphor®), polylalkylene glycols (Pluriol E®, Pluriol P®) and also the technical advanced reactive alkoxylates (Pluriol A®).

Antimicrobials BASF is also marketing biocides for a wide range of applications. In the paper industry, for example, biocides are needed to prevent the formation of mucilage in the process water. They are also used in the production of cosmetics and household goods and serve to disinfect medical equipment or to preserve industrial products such as paper coating colors for example.
