Ciba Specialty Chemicals announces agreement with ICO Polymers to deliver special effects to rotational molding industry

22-Nov-2002 - Switzerland

The plastic additives Segment of Ciba specialty chemicals, a leading supplier of polymer effects, have signed a supply and cooperation agreement in the field of powdered polymers for rotational molding applications with ICO Polymers, a wholly-owned subsidiary of ICO, Inc.. Under the terms of the agreement, ICO will introduce a number of special effects to the rotational molding market, available in select ICORENE® grades through the ICORENE à la carte(TM) platform.* These special effects include enhanced UV protection for durable outdoor applications, antimicrobial grades for odor control, and antistatic grades to reduce static buildup and improve molding performance. Ciba will supply key additive components including Ciba® IRGANOX®, Ciba® TINUVIN®, Ciba® IRGAGUARD(TM), and Ciba® IRGASTAT® to provide the special effects from its existing commercial product lines and will cooperate with ICO in focused projects to bring new effects to the market. Ciba will also continue to provide its full range of products and technical support to its existing customers.

"Special effect additives such as antistats and antimicrobials have been commercially available from Ciba for some time but have not been widely adopted for rotational molding applications," said Judy van de Langkruis, industry head for moldings in Ciba's Plastic Additives Segment. "We see this agreement with ICO Polymers as an opportunity to make special effects available to rotational molders worldwide to enhance the performance and add value to their products."
