VWR International, Inc. Selects SAP for Worldwide IT Solution

05-Nov-2002

SAP AG announced that VWR International, Inc., a global leader in the distribution of scientific supplies, has chosen mySAP.com(R) as the information technology platform to optimize operational performance across its worldwide operations. VWR International will deploy enterprise portal, business intelligence, and enterprise management solutions from SAP, delivered and maintained by SAP Hosting for high-quality system performance, lower total cost of ownership, and accelerated time-to-benefit.

The selection builds upon the longstanding successful relationship between VWR and SAP through the implementation of SAP enterprise resource planning systems and SAP business warehouse solutions in VWR's European sites. The new initiative involves software licensing, professional services, and a multi-year contract with SAP Hosting for application hosting services, deepening the IT relationship and commitment from SAP.

"The selection of mySAP.com will enable VWR International to implement a global IT strategy that helps us to better manage performance, deal more effectively with our supplier network, and increase overall business value," said George Gunther, chief information officer, VWR International. "By selecting SAP to provide hosting services, we will be able to benefit from a sophisticated IT platform while concentrating our internal resources on our own core competencies and key business initiatives."

SAP Hosting will maintain and operate the SAP software and infrastructure for VWR's North American implementations. The hosted service delivery from SAP will optimize the application infrastructure at VWR International and manage the technical aspects of the applications, thereby eliminating the day-to-day need for VWR International to manage applications. By offering pre-configured hardware, shorter implementation cycles, and solutions expertise backed by the entire SAP organization, SAP Hosting helps customers achieve lower total cost of ownership in the company's SAP investment.

VWR International will utilize mySAP(TM) Enterprise Portal to provide employees with unified, role-based access to all types of information-including business applications, databases, stored documents, and Internet information from internal and external sources-necessary to succeed in their jobs. Strategic enterprise management functionality from SAP will enable VWR International to manage business performance throughout the entire organization, supporting integrated strategic planning and performance monitoring. VWR International will use the solution to monitor sales performance to its customers and track performance of call center and supplier network activities. In addition, the company will use business intelligence capabilities from SAP to consolidate financial data for better visibility and reporting.
