Degussa's Bleaching and Water Chemicals Business Unit increases its production capacity for water treatment products
In a ceremony attended by the lord mayor of Krefeld, Dieter Pützhofen, the new facility was officially opened today by Dr. Hans-Georg Hartan, head of site services at Degussa's Krefeld site and managing director of Stockhausen GmbH & Co. KG, together with Dr. Klaus Hentschel, head of Degussa's Bleaching and Water Chemicals Business Unit, and Dr. Karl-Erhard Müller, head of the Water Treatment Business Line.
Approximately EUR 30 million were invested to expand the production facility for water treatment products at the Krefeld site, a response to increasing demand for these products on the international market. "In order to increase our capacity by 15,000 tons per year, we also had to expand two other production facilities that produce the raw materials we need to manufacture our water treatment products - particularly our PRAESTOL flocculating agents," said Dr. Karl-Erhard Müller. "We are proud of the fact that, thanks to our new facility, we are not only well positioned to capitalize on the growth the market is experiencing, we have also helped strengthen the Krefeld site," Dr. Hans-Georg Hartan added. With its PRAESTOL® flocculants, used to treat waste water, Degussa is among the world's largest producers. Demand is growing constantly, reflecting the increase in the amount of waste water. The products have made Degussa's Bleaching and Water Treatment Chemicals Business Unit a leader on the international marketplace. "With this new facility, we will be able to consolidate our strong position on the global market and strengthen our ability to deliver our products in sufficient quantities worldwide," explained Dr. Klaus Hentschel.
The new facility will manufacture products for water treatment and for the paper and mining industries. Degussa's PRAESTOL® flocculants have set worldwide standards for economical and ecologically responsible treatment and conditioning of water and sludges. The flocculating agents are used in treating municipal and industrial waste water, clarifying process and circulation water, clarifying raw water for use as drinking water or industrial water, as well as the thickening and dewatering of sludges. PRAESTARET® retention aids for the paper industry will also be produced at the new facility. These chemicals make it possible to manufacture high-quality paper while making optimum use of raw materials and without damaging the environment.
