INEOS Oxide nominates 3 sites on the US Gulf Coast to finalise the study for the construction of a World Scale Ethylene Oxide, Glycol and Ethylene Oxide Derivatives Unit

07-Dec-2011 - United Kingdom

INEOS Oxide has confirmed Plaquemine Louisiana, Battleground, La Porte Texas and Chocolate Bayou Texas as the three retained sites to conduct a final detailed study to expand its ethylene oxide (EO) and Ethylene Oxide Derivatives (EOD) capacity, as part of its strategy to grow its global business over the next few years.

“Following our announcement earlier this year, we have narrowed down the potential locations for a final detailed study on our EO and EOD investment,” said Hans Casier CEO INEOS Oxide. “The work we have done since March has reaffirmed that the US is the obvious location for INEOS Oxide to consider its next expansion. It is a market we know well, where INEOS Group already has a well placed manufacturing presence that is capable of taking full advantage of competitively priced feedstock.”

"We are very excited about the project, which will be of a world scale size of at least 500 kt of EO with appropriately sized Glycol and derivative units. The Battleground, Chocolate Bayou and Plaquemine sites have proved to be front runners in the screening study carried out so far. We envisage making a decision on the final location early next year and proceeding with detailed engineering. Startup of the new complex is foreseen at the end of 2014."

INEOS has also confirmed that the construction of its new one million tonne per annum Ethylene Terminal at its Zwijndrecht facilities in Belgium is progressing well. Operation of the new deep-sea terminal, announced in July 2010, is expected to start in 2012, as planned.
