Georg Fischer pursues its fast expansion in China

Georg Fischer continues to expand at a fast pace in the Chinese market. The company is this week inaugurating two new plants, bringing its total to 14 production companies in the country.

GF AgieCharmilles opens new milling machine factory in Changzhou

China is today the world's leading market for machine tools, and GF AgieCharmilles is expanding its presence accordingly. After Beijing, a second plant of GF AgieCharmilles in China was inaugurated today in Changzhou, located around 200 km west of Shanghai. The total investment amounts to CHF 11 million (RMB 80 million). The new facility covers a production area of 8,000 square meters and is dedicated to the manufacture of milling machines for China and the export markets. It has a capacity of 1,000 machines per year. In order to ensure close cooperation with the customers, the site features research and development (R&D), a demo center and training facilities - ­ in addition to production.

GF Piping Systems opens a major pipe manufacturing facility in Haining

GF Piping Systems, a Corporate Group of Georg Fischer Ltd., is enjoying a strong presence in China with ten manufacturing plants and R&D facilities. This week, Chinaust, the 50/50 joint venture of GF Piping Systems and Lingyun Industrial Corp., is adding a new plant in Haining near Shanghai. The 19,000 square meters facility produces polyethylene pipes for gas and water distribution as well as corrugated drainage pipes up to three meter diameter. The total investment for the project comes to CHF 12.8 million (RMB 93 million).

Georg Fischer has been present in China since 1993. Today the group has more than 20 companies throughout China including 14 production companies. It employs around 2,400 people in the country. Annual sales reached the equivalent of around CHF 500 million in 2010.

"This inauguration of the two new plants in China shows our strong commitment as well as our strong confidence in the future development of the Chinese market,” explained Yves Serra, CEO of Georg Fischer Ltd.
