BIS Group acquiring Alpha GmbH, an E&IC expert specialising in the gas, chemicals and energy industries

14-Sep-2011 - Germany

The Bilfinger Berger Industrial Services Group (BIS Group) is acquiring from Funkwerk AG, 100 per cent of Alpha Meß-Steuer-Regeltechnik GmbH, which is based in Neustadt an der Weinstraße in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate. The E&IC specialist primarily focusing on the gas, chemicals and energy industries has around 120 employees and generated in 2010 an output volume of some EUR 17 million. The acquisition is still subject to antitrust clearance. It has been agreed not to disclose the purchase price.

“Gas production and distribution are growing in importance against the backdrop of energy-policy discussions.  As Alpha addresses not only the process industry but particularly also the gas market and is an acknowledged expert in this area, this acquisition will strengthen our competitive position in this attractive growth segment on a sustained basis”, says Dr. Michael Herbermann, CEO of the BIS Group. Alpha GmbH will be integrated within BIS E.M.S., Cloppenburg, which holds a strong position in the gas technologies market.

Incorporated in 1980, Alpha GmbH specialises in instrumentation, automation and electronics, offering services which cover planning, fabrication and assembly as well as start-ups, training and service. Its customers include such renowned companies as E.ON and RWE, BASF, Sasol and DOW as well as Linde and Outotec in the metallurgy segment. To date, it has primarily targeted the German market with a competence centre for gas in Neustadt and competence centres for chemicals and the energy industry in Leipzig. It has recently also executed projects in Asia, Russia and South America.
