Henkel takes over Purbond joint venture

Strengthening the Adhesives business

06-Apr-2011 - Switzerland

The Swiss-based Purbond AG is now owned 100 percent by Henkel. Initially established as a 50:50 joint venture with Collano AG, also based in Switzerland, Purbond is a global supplier of polyurethane adhesives for load-bearing timber constructions.

Purbond AG was founded in 2003 as a joint venture between the internationally operating Swiss adhesives specialist Collano AG and the U.S.-based National Starch Group. In 2008, Henkel acquired the adhesives business from National Starch, including half of the shares in Purbond. By purchasing the remaining 50% from Collano at the beginning of April 2011, Henkel has now become the sole owner of the PUR adhesives specialist.

The Purbond brand will be managed in the future as a business area in its own right, thus strengthening the product portfolio for timber constructions. This includes applications in apartment buildings, swimming pool complexes and sports halls, as well as bridges and wind power plants. The Purbond competence center in Sempach Station in Switzerland, with its development, application technology and sales functions, will continue to operate in the same way as before.
