Univar invests in development of €1.5m Swedish lubricants depot

24-Mar-2011 - Sweden

Univar inc. announced that it has invested around €1.5 million to construct a lubricants depot at its site in Gothenburg, Sweden. The facility, which is now fully operational, will handle more than 10 million litres per year.

The development positions Gothenburg as the primary receiving hub in the Nordics for the recently integrated Shell Lubricants business. It will take delivery of products from several Shell Lubricants plants across Europe.

Univar’s investment not only increases tank storage capacity and handling facilities, but also sees the addition of a new laboratory. The laboratory houses dedicated technical staff and equipment, ensuring that all products meet the high quality assurance standards required for the lubricants market.

It is also expected that the new facility will offer synergies in the supply chain, enhancing Univar’s capabilities in the region and promoting future business growth.

To maintain the quality standards necessary for this discerning market, products must be maintained at specific temperatures. The facility is designed and configured to allow all tanks and pipe work to be individually maintained at the exact temperature required for each product. Doing so avoids the energy wastage common in sites such as this, where tanks are often kept warm unnecessarily. Energy efficiency and carbon footprint reduction are important aspects of Univar’s sustainability commitments.

Jorgen Mile, Operations Director, for Univar in the Nordics said, “We are delighted about bringing this operation on-stream. It is a clear demonstration of our commitment to investing with our key partners and further improving our ability to supply lubricants to our Nordic customers.”
