BASF Coatings Spa sells production site in Burago Molgora to Alcea Industries Srl

BASF coatings Spa will sell its production site in Burago Molgora for the manufacturing of industrial coatings to Alcea Industries Srl, effective October 1, 2010. In addition to the manufacturing facility for liquid paint in Burago Molgora, the transaction encompasses the business of BASF Coatings Spa in Italy with anodic, electrodisposition coatings for home appliances, heating and general industry and liquid paints for Automotive Supply Metal (ASM) as well as the related customer portfolio. Employees working in these businesses will transfer to Alcea Industries Srl which is part of Alcea Group.

With effect of October 1, 2010, BASF’s customers for anodic technology and ASM will be supplied by Alcea. Both companies will work together closely during the transition period to ensure a seamless support of all customers.

The agreement with Alcea Industries Srl includes a distribution contract for cathodic technology and a license agreement related to liquid paints for Automotive Supplier Metal (ASM) and Commercial Transport (CT).

We opted for a solution that ensures continuous supply of high-quality products to our customers” said Renato Chiesa, Managing Director of BASF Coatings Spa. “Our Italian Coil Coatings business will be further supplied by BASF’s European network at the well-known high level of quality, service and reliability”, added Dr. Wolfgang Kranig, Vice President Pre-Coatings Europe.

BASF’s business in Italy for Automotive OEM coatings and Refinish coatings are not affected by the transaction. BASF will also continue to market and to grow Salcomix brand and products for Small Industry. Products to our customers in Italy will be supplied through BASF’s European production network.

Employees working in the Refinish and OEM coatings businesses will relocate from Burago to BASF’s site in Cesano Maderno (MB) in 2011.
