Trailblazing research on data-driven materials science
Rather than providing a summary of achievements of the MaxNet on Big-Data-Driven Materials Science (BiGmax, 2017-2023), the researchers who cooperated in BiGmax decided to direct attention to future developments in data-driven materials science, with an emphasis on the topics where the basis for further development was laid in BiGmax. This resulted in a " Roadmap on Data-Centric Materials Science” published in the journal Modelling and Simulation in Materials Science and Engineering.
"It is now common belief that many breakthroughs in discovering new materials are necessary, in particular for a sustainable economical development, based on renewable energies and circular carbon-neutral industrial processes. In BiGmax, we have studied how data-driven approaches can be leveraged for such breakthroughs, and in the "Roadmap" we devise ways on how to achieve this in future work.", says Prof. Peter Benner, director at the Max Planck Institute Magdeburg, who headed the BiGmax network together with Prof. Matthias Scheffler from the Fritz Haber Institute of the MPG.
