28-Jun-2002

Laurinburg, North Carolina, June 27, 2002 — Abbott laboratories announced that it is donating its Laurinburg, North Carolina plant to the Scotland Development Corporation, a non-profit company that seeks employment opportunities to improve the quality of life for the Scotland County area, following discontinuation of operations at the facility in June 2002.

The Laurinburg plant was built from 1969 to 1970, resides on 50 acres of land, is valued at $15.5 million, and is approximately 300,000 square feet. The site includes both a 190,000 square foot manufacturing facility, and a 110,000 square foot warehouse. As a part of the donation, Abbott will remove all critical manufacturing and warehousing materials from the site, donating the entire plant infrastructure and utilities.

"We are delighted to donate the plant, and hope that it will help the county to attract a quality employer into Scotland County," said Brent Bowers, manager of Abbott's Laurinburg plant.
