Dr. Tammo Boinowitz Future President of ALTANA’s BYK Division

Dr. Tammo Boinowitz (53) will become managing director of BYK-Chemie GmbH based in Wesel as of January 1, 2021. After a two-month training and transitional phase, he will also become the President of BYK, the largest division of the specialty chemicals group ALTANA. He succeeds Dr. Christoph Schlünken, who has headed the division on an interim basis since October of last year in parallel with his responsibilities on ALTANA’s Management Board.

Dr. Tammo Boinowitz

Dr. Tammo Boinowitz has many years of international management experience in specialty chemicals. He holds a PhD in chemistry and has held various management positions at Evonik since 2008. He currently heads the Care Solutions business unit as Senior Vice President.

Dr. Boinowitz studied chemistry in Hamburg and received his doctorate from the University of
Duisburg-Essen in 1995. At the same time, he studied economics at Open University of Hagen. He then joined the former Th. Goldschmidt AG company in Essen, which is now part of Evonik. After holding various positions in research and development and application technology, he was Global Technical Director of the current Comfort & Insulation business unit from 2003 to 2006. After managing strategic growth projects for the Consumer Specialties business unit and Corporate Development of Evonik Industries, he was appointed Head of the Comfort & Insulation business unit in December 2011. From 2014 to 2018 he headed the Personal Care business unit.
