Bayer MaterialScience LLC relocates polycarbonate film production

22-Jul-2009 - USA

Bayer MaterialScience LLC will relocate production of its Makrofol® and Bayfol® polycarbonate and polycarbonate-blend films from its Berlin, Conn., facility to its facility in Whately, Mass. The move will cause no significant change in the range of films supplied to customers. The Berlin site employs approximately 20 people. Some of those employees will be offered positions at the Whately facility.

"This move will enable Bayer MaterialScience to more effectively meet the changing demands of the market by enhancing our product and application development capabilities to support our customers," says Richard Sabatine, vice president of Functional Films and Specialties, NAFTA, Bayer MaterialScience LLC. "Relocating production of our polycarbonate films also aligns with our strategy of growing our films business, while simultaneously strengthening our production in the United States."

The Whately, Mass., site has extensive film extrusion expertise and has been manufacturing thermoplastic polyurethane and specialty elastomer film and sheet for over 30 years. It is ISO 9001 registered and operates in a 147,000 square foot, state-of-the-art facility. The move is expected to be complete by the end of 2009.
