The First Digital Humidity/Temperature Sensor!
Sensirion presents the world with the first digital humidity/temperature sensor. The tiny SMD sensor module (mass: 7.5 x 5 x 2.5mm, Lx W x H) transmits a calibrated digital signal to measure the relative humidity and temperature.
In addition, owing to full calibration and digital output, the sensors guarantee extremely favourable system costs, a high degree of user-friendliness and excellent long-term stability.
The SHT11 is part of Sensirion?s newest generation of combined humidity/temperatures sensors and sets new standards with regards to user-friendliness and long-term stability. Thanks to the worldwide leading, patented CMOSens® technology (fusion of CMOS and sensor technology), it is possible to integrate two sensor elements, an A/D converter, calibration and a digital interface into a single chip.
The tiny sensor module (mass: 7.5 x 5 x 2.5 mm, L x W x H) transmits a fully calibrated digital signal to measure relative humidity (+/- 3.5% RH, +/- 2% on request) and temperature (+/- 0.5°C @ 20°C). In this way, the customer is spared the elaborate and cost-intensive calibration that is associated with conventional capacitive sensor elements.
The SHT11 can be directly connected to a microcontroller using a digital 2-wire interface, which in turn signifies simplest system integration and reduced costs. Furthermore, the SMD packaging of the sensor module is extremely suitable for high-volume OEM applications.
CMOSens® technology is optimised for excellent long-term stability and extremely low drift, constituting crucial customer advantages for sophisticated applications, e.g. in the automobile industry or the building automation industry. A further advantage ? e.g. for transmitter manufacturers ? is the extremely short response time (4 sec) and the wide range of application from ?40° to 120°C. Due to its capacity for low power applications (up to 1 micro W!), the SHT11 ultimately opens up new area of application for battery-operated measuring instruments or consumer goods.
