Excel Dodge City



Excel Corporation is a meat packing plant located in Dodge City, Kansas, owned by Cargill Meat Solutions. The plant was originally opened in 1980 operating as a kill facility. In 1983 the plant expanded and opened a fabrication floor. In 2005 a state of the art hamburger grind facility was added. The plant employs close to 2700 employees,the largest employer in Dodge City. About 5,800-6,000 cattle are slaughtered daily and about 1.5 million head are processed per year. The main areas of production include Slaughter,Fabrication and Rendering.Excel is one of the largest meat packing plants in all of the United States. Approximately 550,000 pounds of ground beef are processed daily. A typical day consists of three shifts, two production shifts and one contracted clean-up shift. The plant sits on 220 acres of land and the facility itself is approximately 800,000 square feet. About 140-150 trucks of cattle are delivered each day to the facility and most of the cattle come within a 150-mile radius.
